How Many Dinosaurs Can Fit in a Shipping Container? (2026 Loading Guide)

Zigong, Sichuan, China – September 6, 2026 – Shipping containers are the backbone of global trade. Every day, thousands of 40HQ and 20GP containers carry goods across oceans to ports worldwide. And yes-your animatronic dinosaurs, rides, costumes, and sculptures travel the same way.

If you’re planning to buy dinosaur models from YESDINO, the first question on your mind is probably: “How many can I fit in one container?” Because that number directly affects your shipping costs and overall budget.

We’ve been in the animatronics industry for a decade, with an 8,000-square-meter production facility and customers in over 40 countries. Over the years, we’ve loaded countless containers with everything from tiny dinosaur hand puppets to giant 30-meter-long Brachiosaurus models. Here’s our practical, data-backed guide on what fits where.

Container Sizes at a Glance

Before we dive into the numbers, let’s get the basics straight. These are the two workhorses of ocean freight:

Container Type

Internal Length

Internal Width

Internal Height

Usable Volume

20GP (Standard)

~5.9m

~2.35m

~2.39m

~28–33 CBM

40HQ (High Cube)

~12.03m

~2.35m

~2.69m

~67–76 CBM

Note: 40HQ containers are about 30cm taller than standard 40GP containers, giving you roughly 13% more cubic volume. That extra height is a game-changer for stacking.

Animatronic Dinosaurs & Animals (Standard Models)

This is the most common question we get. Most customers ordering standard-sized animatronic dinosaurs want to know: “How many can I pack?”

Generally speaking, dinosaurs are longer but narrower than most animal models. So the quantity difference between the two isn’t huge.

Based on years of loading experience:

40HQ container: Approximately 20 units of medium-sized animatronic dinosaurs/animals

20GP container: Approximately 8–10 units of medium-sized animatronic dinosaurs/animals

These numbers assume standard models in the 3–6 meter length range. If your dinosaurs are smaller, you can fit more. If they’re larger (like our 6-meter Pachycephalosaurus or giant 30-meter Brachiosaurus), you’ll fit fewer.

Dinosaur Rides (Interactive Ride-on Models)

Interactive dinosaur rides are among our hottest sellers. These are the ones visitors can actually sit on for a thrilling experience. Most of them are in the 3–4 meter range-not too big, not too small.

Because they’re relatively compact, you can pack quite a few:

40HQ container: Approximately 22–25 units

20GP container: Approximately 12 units

Pro tip: Most dinosaur rides are under 1.8 meters tall. That means you can take advantage of the vertical space in a 40HQ container. We often weld custom steel racks to create a second tier-effectively doubling your loading capacity. It’s a smart way to maximize every cubic meter.

Dinosaur Scooters (Electric Ride-on Vehicles)

Our animatronic dinosaur scooters are a hit with kids and families. These battery-powered ride-ons are typically around 2 meters long, with fairly consistent shapes and widths.

With the help of tiered steel racks, you can stack them efficiently:

40HQ container: Approximately 30–33 units

20GP container: Approximately 12–15 units

The uniform size makes them perfect for high-density packing. If you’re ordering a large quantity, we can design a custom loading plan to maximize your container usage.

Realistic Dinosaur Costumes

Our realistic dinosaur costumes are designed for stage performances, exhibitions, and commercial events. Each costume is carefully packed into a rectangular flight case before shipping-so the dimensions are fixed and predictable.

Most dinosaur costumes are around 4 meters long when fully assembled (but they’re packed flat or folded).

40HQ container: Approximately 20–24 units

20GP container: Approximately 10–12 units

We use durable wooden crates or shipping containers for safe delivery. And because the cases are uniform, loading is straightforward and space-efficient.

Dragon Costumes (Western Dragon Suits)

Our realistic dragon suits are similar in size to dinosaur costumes-around 4 meters long when fully extended. They’re also packed in standardized flight cases.

40HQ container: Approximately 20–24 units

20GP container: Approximately 10–12 units

Important note: Dragons have wide wingspans. Before shipping, we remove the wings and pack them separately inside the same case. This ensures safe transport and prevents damage during transit.

Fiberglass Sculptures & Custom Shapes

We also custom-make fiberglass sculptures for theme parks, museums, and commercial spaces. These can be dinosaurs, fantasy creatures, or completely unique designs-the shapes and sizes are endless.

Because every sculpture is different, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer for container loading. The number depends entirely on the dimensions and shape of each piece.

Here’s what we recommend: Send us your specific measurements and 3D models (or even rough sketches). Our logistics team will calculate the exact loading plan and tell you exactly how many units fit in a 40HQ or 20GP container.

Tips & Smart Shipping Advice

The numbers above are based on actual loading data from thousands of containers we’ve shipped over the past 15 years. But here’s the thing-every order is different.

Here are a few things that can change your container count:

Model size: Bigger dinosaurs = fewer units. Smaller ones = more units.

Packaging: Some models require extra padding or custom crates, which takes up space.

Shape: Long, skinny models pack differently than wide, bulky ones.

Accessories: Extra parts (like wings, tails, or bases) affect the total volume.

Our advice? Don’t guess-ask us. Send us your product list with dimensions, and we’ll run a professional loading calculation. We’ll tell you exactly how many containers you need, how to pack them, and even suggest cost-saving strategies like steel racking or mixed loading.

At YESDINO, we don’t just make dinosaurs-we help you ship them smartly. With decade of expertise, a massive 8,000m² workshop, and a track record of serving clients in over 40 countries, we know the ins and outs of global logistics.
