North Carolina Tattoo Artists Dave and Lauren Tedder Add Monthly Residency at Electro Magnetic Tattoo in Chesapeake, Virginia
HAVELOCK, N.C. – June 10, 2026 – Dave and Lauren Tedder, Japanese Irezumi and American Traditional tattoo artists, will begin a monthly residency at Electro Magnetic Tattoo in Chesapeake, Virginia, in July 2026, opening regular booking for clients in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Chesapeake. The husband-and-wife artists of Tedder Family Tattooing, based at The Custom Tattoo Company in Havelock, North Carolina, will work two to four days each month at the Chesapeake studio. Havelock remains their home base.
Tedder Family Tattooing represents three generations of the craft. Lauren’s father, Jeff Cohen, opened The Custom Tattoo Company in Havelock in 1983, across from the gates of the Marine Corps air station. Lauren grew up in that shop and now co-owns it, and Dave has tattooed there for years. The Chesapeake dates put their work within a short drive for clients in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and the rest of the Hampton Roads area who have asked about sessions closer to home.
“We have had clients from Norfolk and Virginia Beach making the drive to Havelock for years,” said Dave Tedder. “Setting up monthly dates in Chesapeake means we can take on those projects on a schedule that works for everyone. The work is the same either way: planned compositions, traditional structure, built to hold up over time.”
Dave Tedder specializes in large-scale Japanese Irezumi: full sleeves, backpieces, leg sleeves, and bodysuits built in the traditional structure, alongside American Traditional tattooing. He has more than 25 years of experience and over 100 competition awards, with features in tattoo publications including TattooNOW, Prick Magazine, Tattoo Review, and Tattoo Savage. His Japanese work follows the Edo-period woodblock tradition, drawing on the print masters Kuniyoshi, Yoshitoshi, and Kunisada, with each piece built as a single composition rather than a set of separate images.
Lauren Tedder is a second-generation tattooer who grew up in her father’s shop and went on to work at Bulldog Tattoo in Corsica, France, and Thunderbolt Tattoo in Atlanta before returning to Havelock. She works in Traditional Americana, dotwork, and fineline, and co-owns The Custom Tattoo Company, handling its business operations alongside her own tattooing.
“It is the same tattooers and the same standards, just closer to home for our Virginia clients,” said Lauren Tedder.
