3 Islands Intermodal backing accelerates Boxman\u2019s national growth under 100% Kiwi ownership<\/div>\n

Boxman, one of New Zealand’s most recognised shipping container providers<\/a>, has moved into a new chapter backed by 3 Islands Intermodal<\/a> (3i), the country’s only locally-owned nationwide port services provider. The acquisition brings fresh investment, a depot expansion that takes Boxman nationwide alongside 3i’s existing logistics network, and a renewed commitment to the high-quality service Boxman customers have relied on since 1990.<\/p>\n

For customers, it’s business as usual and then some. Boxman will continue operating with the same regional focus it has always had, keeping decision-makers within local communities rather than centralised in Auckland. With 3i’s 700-strong nationwide workforce and deep logistics expertise behind it, the business is now positioned to reach more Kiwis in more places than ever before.<\/p>\n

Gavin McIntyre, CEO of 3 Islands Intermodal, said the decision to acquire the business was an easy one:<\/p>\n

“We are very pleased to have purchased the Boxman assets and contracts, and to welcome the Boxman team into the 3i family<\/a>. 3i was a customer of Boxman before the receivership occurred and, having been fortunate to have purchased it out of receivership, we plan to focus it on providing great sales, leasing and modification services to existing and new customers.”<\/p>\n

McIntyre said customers can expect the same high-quality service and reasonable pricing they have always received.<\/p>\n

“It’s been important for us to keep Boxman in Kiwi ownership, as its owner we are approaching the Boxman offering to customers in the same way that we approached it when we were a customer ourselves. We are excited to work with the Boxman team to grow the business further and advance our customers’ businesses at the same time,” he said.<\/p>\n

A depot expansion programme is already underway. A new Boxman depot opened in Mount Maunganui last month, with further openings planned for North-West Auckland, Hamilton, Timaru, Dunedin and Invercargill over the next 24 months. Accompanying the expansion is investment in upgraded depot facilities, improved container modification services, and greater convenience for customers accessing Boxman’s offering closer to where they live and do business.<\/p>\n

3i’s acquisition reinforces a broader philosophy: keeping critical New Zealand infrastructure and supply chains in local hands. With 7.5% of 3i owned by its employee trust, team members are themselves shareholders, a model that drives the long-term thinking and community-minded service that aligns naturally with Boxman’s culture.<\/p>\n

McIntyre said the formula for lasting success was straightforward.<\/p>\n

“100% Kiwi ownership, high-quality service at a fair price, and a genuine commitment to helping Kiwi businesses grow. That’s what we’re here for, and that’s exactly what Boxman has always stood for.”<\/p>\n
