75 New Zealand primary schools adopt free World Cup teaching tool in a single month
AUCKLAND, New Zealand – June 19, 2026 – As the largest FIFA World Cup in history plays out across North America, 75 New Zealand primary schools are using it to teach the world. Can Do Kids Worldwide, an online education platform for children aged 7 to 12, today said all 75 schools joined within the past month, using its free Football Worldwide resource to turn the tournament’s 48 competing nations into geography and social studies lessons.
The timing is the point. With matches running daily through July 19, teachers can pair real results with classroom learning the same week they happen. Football Worldwide gives each of the 48 nations a distinct cultural starting point covering geography, language and social context, explored through interactive games, quizzes, eBooks and videos. Because it aligns with existing curriculum standards, teachers can slot it into planned lessons without writing new units from scratch.
“A World Cup only comes around every four years, and this one, with 48 nations and three host countries, is the biggest classroom the world has ever had,” said Charles Margerison, founder of Can Do Kids Worldwide. “We wanted any teacher, anywhere, to be able to walk into a Monday lesson and take their class to Morocco or Croatia or Japan, with no prep and no cost. The tournament supplies the excitement, and we supply the curriculum.”
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted jointly by the United States, Canada and Mexico, is the first to feature 48 nations, making it the largest edition ever staged. For New Zealand schools, the expanded field means more entry points into countries students may never have encountered in a classroom, from confederation histories to past winners across every continent. The tournament runs through the July 19 final, giving schools weeks of live material.
Football Worldwide sits inside the broader Can Do Kids Worldwide platform, which guides students on virtual visits to more than 100 countries. The model puts inquiry first: students drive the questions, and the platform supplies the material. Teachers and schools can access Football Worldwide free at candokidsworldwide.com.
