Silver Spring, MD, USA – Telling the story of 9/11 through a unique spiritual pilgrimage, Jerome Komisar has now released his latest novel, Elijah: A Novel of 9/11. The book’s protagonist is Martin Stein, an aspiring screenwriter who happens to be on the South Tower’s 88th floor at the time of attack. As the tragedy unfolds, he joins a fearful and confused crowd of escaping people. In the midst of the fire and smoke, he begins to bargain with Heaven. If he survives the carnage that surrounds him, he will make an extraordinary film to commemorate the tragedy and honor all that is lost. Years have passed when the novel opens, and Martin, now a successful moviemaker, has written several scripts about the tragedy, but none have met his high standards.

The novel, narrated by the scriptwriter, is divided into two time periods, “Then” and “Now.” The “Then” begins with the attack on the World Trade Center and follows Martin, his friends and his loves, through the first days after the attack and on to celebrated careers in the performing arts. The “Now” begins after Martin’s failure to create the movie paralyzes his ability to work. It is then that the prophet Elijah arrives. “Failure to meet a promise made under duress is not a great defect, Martin. It is only human. But a movie about the tragedy is simply too important to let go. Will you let me try to help?”

Elijah: A Novel of 9/11 sends readers on a fascinating journey as the Biblical prophet Elijah presents himself to Martin Stein. Although Elijah manifests a human form in front of Martin, no one else can see him. Together, they attempt to envision a true and searching film, one that extracts guidance and meaning from the destruction of the Towers. As they discuss everything from global history to the meaning of life and God, Elijah and Martin’s complex relationship becomes vital and poignant.
